Name:
Kat - always with a K
Birthdate:
2 December 1975
Location:
As of October 1, 2008 my LiveJournal is Friends Only.

If you want to be added to my flist, please comment to this post and let me know a little about yourself.

I have resisted to take this step long enough, but I noticed that often enough I decided against posting things that were on my mind because if I had I would have had to lock the posts and thus lock everyone else out. This made me feel bad twice: Once, I would have felt bad if I had locked out those that visit my journal just because a post was a tad more personal, and secondly, because I did not share with my friends that what I want to share. So after long and hard thinking I decided to generally lock my journal except for pure icon posts which I hope will come more regularly than they have lately.

But now...

Well, what can I say? My name is Katja, though you can all call me Kat =P

I am from Zwickau in Saxony but I haven't lived there since 1997, when I moved to the little Franconian town of Bad Windsheim (pretty much exactly in the middle between Würzburg and Nürnberg, near Rothenburg ob der Tauber) for my job. However, being 250 km away from my home does not mean that I am not close to Zwickau any more. I love the city and I love the Saxon people. Something you may find surprising is that I am usually very shy. It takes some time for me to get acquainted and warm up, but when I do there is no stopping me.

Art - I love art, all sorts of it. Photography, paintings, architecture, sculptures, literature (both prose and poetry), music, writing, you name it.

Bayern 3 - the best radio station in the world. I've been an avid listener for over 20 years by now.

Choir - from September 1984 until December 1996 I was a member of the Schwanenschloss Kinder- und Jugendchor Zwickau, a semi-professional ensemble of five choirs, and I still have very fond memories of those 12 years which had a huge impact on my life.

Def Leppard - music is a huge part of my life, and Def Leppard are my joint #1. Ever since 1991 I have been a fan of theirs. They are one of the only two musical acts of whom I have everything ever released, the other being German vocal pop group die Prinzen.

England - I am not ashamed to say that I am an Anglophile. I love everything about England - the tea, the countryside, the weather, the people... everything. Not only is it my favourite holiday destination, but also the country that I can see myself moving too one fine day.

Football - the most exciting sport in the world! I've grown up with football, with my grandfather having been a goalkeeper in his younger days, so I guess you can say it's in my genes. My favourite teams are (in that order) Chelsea FC, England, Sheffield Wednesday and Liverpool. Yes, if England take on Germany, I will root for the Three Lions despite being German!

Green - my favourite colour, probably because it goes well with my red hair =P

History - I love history. I have plenty of books on history, mostly about ancient Greece and Egypt, but also about Saxony and many other eras and areas.

Internet - one of mankind's best inventions. I've met so many wonderful people online, so to me it's a blessing.

Jewellery - I'm not one to wear much jewellery, but there is one piece of jewellery that I am wearing almost all the time: It's a necklace I inherited from my grandmother on my mother's side, who herself got it back in 1913 for her christening. Thanks to this necklace, my gran is always with me.

Katharina - my grandmother on my father's side, and one of the most amazing people I have ever been blessed to know. She's also the reason why my name is Katja (originally my parents planned to name me Lydia). I'm being told I have her face, and quite a few of her characteristics. In 2004 I had a star named after her, so now when I'm missing granny too much, all I need to do is look up at the sky.

Languages - I love languages, full stop. I speak English and German, as well as a bit of Russian and French, and I did a bit of Spanish too - I urgently need to pick up on that again. Hopefully I will have the chance to learn yet more languages.

Music - I mentioned it before, music is a giant part of my life. Though that's a bit of an understatement. In fact, music is much, much more: It is my life.

Nature - even though I grew up in a city, I love nature. In my childhood our family went on a camping vacation every summer, and it was always the highlight of the year.

Owls - the most amazing creatures in the world! Ever since I was a child I've been fascinated by these birds.

Prinzen - affectionately known as My Boys and together with Def Leppard my joint #1, they are the other musical act that I own everything ever released: all albums, all singles, and I've been a fan of theirs for even longer than I was of the Leps. Mostly because they, like me are from the East of Germany and so I knew about them much sooner than I learnt about the existance of Def Leppard. Actually, I've already been a fan of theirs even before they became die Prinzen, at a time when they were still known as Herzbuben.

Queen - they're legendary, simple as that.

Red hair - as a child I was a natural redhead, today I have to use artificial means. But my hair will always be red.

Shakespeare - I love the theatre, and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is my favourite play.

Tea - my drug, even more so than chocolate or gummy bears. Seriously. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is start the kettle. I'm not human until I've had my first sip of tea.

UNICEF - I've been a member of UNICEF for many years now. The work they do for the children in this world is amazing.

Vanessa - my sweet little goddaughter ♥ Well, sort of. I am not christened nor religious so I can't be her real godmother, still, my best friend's daughter is my goddaughter as far as I am concerned.

Writing - I love writing fanfiction (slash, het, you name it), but also other little stories.

Xenophobia - probably my biggest pet peeve.

Yellow Submarine - just like Queen the Beatles are legendary, so I had to get them in here somehow ;)

Zwickau - my beautiful, wonderful, historical, beloved home town. Go there if you can!

In the public posts everyone can comment, however, all anonymous comments are screened by default. This is by no means because I don't want your comments - I do want them, even if they are anonymous. But it's my way of moderating what's being said to me, if you please. I've had some negative experience with anonymous commenters in the past and I simply don't want this to happen ever again. I will see to it that I can read and unscreen your comments very soon after I got them anyway.

By the way, I really, really try my best to stay up to date and reply to all comments I have received not too long after I got them; however, my offline life as it is, especially my work schedule, unfortunately hinders me a lot in this perspective. I am constantly behind on commenting in my flist's LJ's and I am behind on replying to the comments that were left in my LJ. That does not mean that I do not read your comments though. I do read them, down to the very last one, and I appreciate every single one of them, very much so. So please do not think of me as rude or ungrateful.
